Kirroughtree Visitor Centre is the main gateway to Galloway Forest Park. It has bike hire, fantastic forest walks and amazing wildlife. It’s fully accessible both in and around the visitor centre and in the Wild Watch Hide where you can spot red squirrels and woodland birds. There’s a great adventure play park here too and an orienteering course. In the Galloway Forest Park you can visit the Red Deer Range and the Wild Goat Park. There are regular Meet the Deer events and from the wildlife hide, you can watch the red deer as they roam. The Red Deer Range and Wild Goat Park are nearby to Clatteringshaws Visitor Centre where you can enjoy refreshments too. At Glentrool Visitor Centre, Newton Stewart in Wigtownshire you are at the gateway to the Galloway Hills. Pick up maps and information about the hill ranges here and The Merrick, south Scotland’s highest mountain at nearly 2,800ft. The Merrick can be climbed from Bruce’s Stone or you can enjoy the more sedate woodland trails from here or cycling in the forest.
